Take a really close look at the tie......!

I am my son’s teacher. He passes me in the hallways, hands me homework, and greets me, some days, as if it is the first time we are seeing each other that particular morning. A casual observer of this teacher-student interaction will never know how deeply we are connected, or guess that but a few hours before this formal moment I awoke this boy, a boy most reluctant to be awoken, and then tramped down to our basement in my sleepers to get his shirt from the dryer. An observer would not know of our tussles over homework, the scramble for breakfast, the rush out the door to get be on time for this formal moment.
